About

‘JWALA’, the M-Dasan Institute of Technology’s women cell was founded in 2018 with the goal of educating and empowering women to reach their full potential and find their place in a competitive society. The primary goals are to increase female students and employee’s self-worth along with confidence to foster decision making skills, to increase knowledge of women’s social issues and concerns regarding health, employment and gender. Our main objective involves maintaining a harmonious atmosphere at the institute, preventing gender discrimination. The cell is also responsible for looking into any complaints filed by students and staff about women grievances at the college. The cell engages with awareness and sensitization of gender issues.

 

Jewellery making workshop and Exhibition

            

The Women Empowerment Cell (JWALA) of M-DIT Kozhikode successfully organized a Jewelry Making Workshop & Exhibition on Friday, 6th February, at 1:30 PM in the Seminar Hall.

The workshop was conducted by Ms. Varna P S, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, NSS College Manjeri, and the Founder of Varna’s Bauble, who served as the Resource Person for the event. The program aimed to empower students by introducing them to creative entrepreneurship and skill-based learning in jewelry making.

A total of 30 students actively participated in the workshop. The session covered the basics of handmade jewelry design, materials used, techniques involved, and insights into transforming the craft into a small-scale business. The resource person also shared her personal journey as an entrepreneur, motivating students to explore creative careers alongside academics.

The workshop was interactive and hands-on, allowing participants to engage directly with the process of jewelry making. The exhibition segment showcased various handcrafted jewelry pieces, helping students understand design aesthetics and finishing techniques.

The event was well-received by the participants, who expressed great enthusiasm and appreciation for the practical exposure and entrepreneurial insights gained. Overall, the Jewelry Making Workshop & Exhibition was a meaningful and enriching experience that aligned with the objectives of the Women Empowerment Cell by promoting creativity, skill development, and self-reliance among students.

State-Level Seminar Organized

To promote the concept of gender equality among students, the Kerala Women’s Commission organized a seminar on the topic “Individual, Society, Freedom: The Kerala Context of Gender Discrimination” on July 20, 2025, at Ulliyeri M. Dasan Institute of Technology (MDIT).

Educational institutions play a major role in building an egalitarian social structure. This program was part of the Kerala Women’s Commission’s initiatives in the education sector to nurture a perspective on gender equality through curricular inclusion.The seminar was inaugurated by Adv. P. Sathidevi, Chairperson of the Kerala Women’s Commission. The event was presided over by Mr. M. Mehaboob, Chairman of MDIT.

Dr. P. M. Maheeshan (Principal, MDIT Engineering College), Mrs. Beena Sadashivan (M. Dasan Arts and Science College), and Mrs. Shahanas P. (Principal, MDIT Polytechnic) also addressed the gathering. Following the inaugural session, Dr. Sonia E.P. (Assistant Professor, Govt. Arts & Science College) conducted an awareness session. Over 200 students participated in the highly beneficial class. N. Divya, Project Officer of the Women’s Commission, delivered the vote of thanks

 

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAMMS

   As a part of  International Women's day on March 8th vaious programs were organized and conducted by MDIT  women cell  'JWALA'. A medical camp was set on the campus by Malabar Medical College offering free medical check up for all the working staff in the campus.

Medical Check up Camp for Staff

 

Talk on Women Empowerment by Dr. Fathima Asla in Association with MDIT women cell Jwala

A inspiring Talk on Women’s Empowerment was delivered by Dr. Fathima Asla a well-known writer and influencer for gender equality at seminar hall on 11th March 2024. The speaker emphasized the importance of education, self-confidence, and financial independence in achieving women’s empowerment. The session motivated students to pursue their goals and contribute positively to society.

  

    

 

TALK ON MOOD SWINGS IN MENSTURATION AND POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH

Menstrual cycle is a natural, complex process associated with a female reproductive system. During this phase, women generally feel different, emotionally and physically. And also this being a concern around women, the women cell committee decided to conduct an awareness class for all the students of MDIT.

We decided after calling a meeting for all staff and student members of the cell on 15/10/2024 and allocated respective roles for coordinating the seminar. It was held on 25/10/2024 by a prominent resource person Ms.LASITHA P (Counsellor & Trainer) with an 18 years of experience in counselling motivation class, awareness & activities sessions. The event was very fruitful with a collective of both female and male students. The session also emphasised on positive mental wellbeing. Quiz Competition

A  Quiz Competition was organized exclusively for girl students on 13th March 2024 to test their knowledge on women’s rights, health, achievements, and leadership. The event encouraged participation from all departments.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Program

A Cervical Cancer Awareness Program was conducted in November 2023 in collaboration with Malabar Medical College (MMC), Calicut. The primary objective of the session was to educate students about cervical cancer, its causes, symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of early detection through regular screening and HPV vaccination

 

 

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAMMS

International Women’s Day of 2022 was celebrated by quiz competitions, I am amazing sessions, mehandi designing, poster creating competitions, and fireless cookery competitions for the pupils in an effort to improve the ladies' social and intellectual standing. Dr. Ligisha P., the head of the ECE department, taught yoga lessons to students and female staff in order to assist people in transcending themselves and achieving enlightenment. To promote understanding of the status and dignity of women, RJ Vijitha (Club FM) spoke on "gender equity today for a sustainable tomorrow."

Women Self-Defense Training Program

In order to empower women via complete awareness and practical teaching, the Women Self-Defense Training Program of the Kerala Police conducted a self-defense session in the college auditorium on 25th May 2022.

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAMMS

For the female pupils, an online elocution and poster-making competition was held on March 8, 2021, in recognition of International Women's Day. The Women Self-Defence Training Program was presented by the Kerala Police in the college auditorium with the goal of empowering women through thorough awareness and hands-on instruction. Any time of year, praise is a fantastic approach to keep pupils engaged. Ms. Rashida (S3) of the CE department was recognized by the Women's Cell for winning the gold medal in the 2021 Kerala State Boxing Championship

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAMMS

On March 8,2019, a variety of events were held to commemorate International Women’s Day. Women's Cell planted a tree in the campus courtyard as a love tribute to our staff, Ms. Sunitha. 

For the female students, a documentary screening, a postermaking contest, and a culinary fair were held.

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAMMS

On March 8, 2018, a menstrual hygiene education session was conducted for female pupils, led by Ms. Padmini, a public health nurse. The initiative aimed to eradicate taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation while raising awareness about the importance of effective menstrual hygiene management.

The college's Women's Cell has installed a sanitary napkin vending machine on campus. Additionally, incinerators have been set up at the college and ladies' hostel to promote proper disposal of used sanitary products.
